Data Entry Position - DNA Bank
The Australian Motor Neuron Disease DNA Bank

We are looking for a student to help with data entry

for the Australian Motor Neuron Disease DNA Bank,
run by A/Prof Roger Pamphlett.
We need to enter data from questionnaires from people with Motor Neuron Disease.

This casual position would be suitable for a 1st year Sydney Medical Program student
who has data base experience,
and is able to work for several days per week during December ‘09 and January ‘10
then a few hours a week during 2010.
Times of work are flexible.

Calling for nominations to the positions of Sydney University Medical Society President and Vice Presidents

If you would like to submit a nomination for:

(a) Honorary President (1 position available)

-    Criteria for nomination: must have held 2 positions on council either elected or appointed.
-    How to submit your nomination: Send a written nomination, with two signatures of society members to the Electoral Officer Tony Milne (to be placed in the MedSoc Office in the Electoral Officers pidgeon hole) OR in a sealed envelope addressed to Tony Milne to the nominations box in the MedSoc Bookshop.
-    If you are nominating someone other than yourself, that person MUST sign the nomination form indicating they accept the nomination.

(b) Vice Presidents (4 positions available, two 3rd and two 4th years in 2010)

-    Criteria for nomination: will be in either 3rd or 4th year in 2010 and has held 1 position on council either elected or appointed.
-    How to submit your nomination: Send a written nomination, with two signatures of society members to the Electoral Officer Tony Milne (to be placed in the MedSoc Office in the Electoral Officers pidgeon hole) OR in a sealed envelope addressed to Tony Milne to the nominations box in the MedSoc Bookshop.

MIRAGE/Medsoc Rural Health Night 2009 and Rural GP Skills Night


This year’s Rural Health Night is being held on Thursday 15th October in Eastern Ave Auditorium.  There will be refreshments from 6pm with presentations starting at 6.30pm.  Presentations include a rural GP, a rural specialist, a rural physio, the School of Rural Health talking about Dubbo/Orange/Lismore/Broken Hill and the Rural Doctors Network discussing scholarships being offered next year!  
 
Additionally medical students have the opportunity to sign up for the Rural GP Skills Night (20th October) at the GPSN stand - you can only sign up on the night! The skills night will include suturing and other skills TBA.   Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Call for submissions: Sydney University Medical Journal 2010
The Sydney University Medical Journal (SUMJ), published since 1905, is the premier publication of the Sydney University Medical Society (MedSoc). SUMJ aims to showcase high-quality academic and creative works from those associated with medicine at the University of Sydney.

SUMJ is now seeking submissions for its 2010 issue in both the themed and general sections. Students, academics and recent graduates associated with the Sydney Medical School are invited to contribute to the Journal.

Theme: Renewal

Types of submissions: essay/opinion article (2500 words max.), original research/literature review (2500 words max.), creative writing (2500 words max.), travel (1500 words max.), case report (1500 words max.), poetry, book review, history, recipes, humour/satire, photography, illustrations, artwork, etc. We also welcome any unpublished material previously submitted to SUMJ since 2007.

Please send a brief abstract (no more than 250 words) outlining your idea, type of submission, proposed length, and your details (incl. qualifications and current course/year and/or position) to: sumj2010 [at] gmail.com. Submissions will be reviewed by the editorial committee prior to inclusion/publication.

Final date for proposal submission: 13 September 2009
Authors of accepted proposals will be notified from early-October onwards.
