Nominations are due Tuesday October 20th 2009 by 6pm.
President and Vice President positions can be voted for by the entire cohort by ballot, as per the MedSoc Consitution. However, MedSoc has traditionally held a pre-selection ballot, voting by MedSoc Council members, with nominees for these positions withdrawing their nominations based on the results of this pre-selection.
At our last meeting, MedSoc Council resolved to only hold a pre-selection ballot with the express permission of all nominees to these positions. If all nominees to the positions of President and Vice President indicate that they would like to go ahead with the pre-selection then this will occur at our final meeting for the year 6:30pm Wednesday 28th October. Following this pre-selection, should there still be more nominees than positions for President and Vice President, an e-vote of the entire cohort will occur in the following week.
All nominees for these positions should include: - written nomination, with two signatures of society members - whether they give permission for a pre-selection ballot to take place within MedSoc Council on October 28th 2009 - an 100 word blurb indicating their previous experiences and motivation for the position they are nominating which will be used for circulation in the event that an e-vote occurs
If a cohort wide e-vote occurs, nominees are reminded that as per MedSoc’s Regulations they are forbidden to engage in electioneering, interfere with any balloting process and engage in any dishonest practice relating to the election. Electioneering and self-promotion are forbidden THIS INCLUDES FACEBOOK! The 100 word blurb will be the sole additional material provided to voters before their vote.
Other positions that will be available at the final meeting: (a) Honorary Treasurer; (b) Director of Functions; (c) Medical Education Officer; (d) Australian Medical Students Association representative (e) Director of Publications
These positions do not require a prior written nomination; nominations will be received on the night and voting undertaken by preferential ballot by all members eligible to vote. This includes all Council position holders and society members who are attending their third Council meeting.
If you need clarification, please consult the Constitution on the MedSoc website.
